Easter Seals Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center, Inc. is a non-profit, tax exempt, IRS Section 501(c)(3) agency. Effective January 1, 2005, the law changed concerning the amount of tax deduction allowed for a donated vehicle. In most cases, the deduction is now limited to the gross amount a charity receives for the vehicle when it is sold. We make every effort to sell our donated vehicles at the highest price possible. However, that amount will usually be less than the "fair market" or "book" value. We have no way of knowing what a vehicle will sell for in advance of the sale since there are many variables, including condition, optional equipment and mileage. The IRS allows you, the taxpayer, to claim a tax deduction for the value of your vehicle up to $500. If we sell the vehicle for more than $500, we will send you a letter stating the sale price for your tax purposes. You should consult your tax advisor regarding the deduction. You may also visit the Internal Revenue Service web site at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i8283.pdf for information regarding noncash donations. This link will open a file in PDF format and can be opened using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded at http://www.adobe.com/acrobat. Why should I donate my vehicle to Easter Seals Goodwill Industries? All donations may be tax deductible.
Proceeds from your donation help Easter Seals Goodwill Industries provide employment and training services to people with disabilities and other special needs in New Haven, New London and Middlesex Counties. Doing something good to help others always feels good, and the tax break can be a nice reward! Is my car eligible?
We also accept boats, motorcycles, campers, motor homes, RVs and real estate. Please call us if you are interested in donating these to our agency. How do I donate my vehicle? Your donation will be picked up free of charge. All you need to do is:
